F.A.Q
1. How Does Consignment Work and What Are the Benefits?
Selling your luxury watch or jewelry on consignment allows you to earn more. Since payment is made after we’ve secured a buyer, you typically receive a higher return compared to an outright sale. Before sending your item, we agree on a price—subject only to an in-house inspection—so there’s no guesswork about your payout.
- At Gray & Sons Jewelers, we do not charge commission fees or impose hidden costs. Here’s how our process is designed to benefit you:
- Your item is fully insured (up to $3.5 million) through Lloyd’s of London upon arrival.
- We boast one of the industry’s fastest conversion rates, with most items selling within 8–10 weeks.
- Our marketing efforts include professional photography, prominent placement in our showroom, monthly 100-page color catalogs, and online platforms that receive over one million visitors annually.
- All marketing, photography, insurance, and promotional expenses are covered by us.
- Our consignment program is trusted even by other jewelry stores who send their inventory to us.
2. How Long Does It Take to Sell Outright or on Consignment?
Whether selling in-person or online, the process is straightforward.
Online submissions: Once you submit photos and a description, we’ll respond within 24–48 hours. Upon accepting our offer, you’ll ship the item using our EZ Ship box , packing materials. Always mail it via insured, certified mail.
Outright sales: Upon receipt and satisfactory inspection, payment is issued via check or wire transfer within 24–48 hours.
Consignment: Once consignment pricing is accepted, we send you a consignment agreement. After it is signed, we begin marketing your item. Payment is issued 10 business days after the item sells (to account for our standard 10-day return policy).
3. Can You Provide an Exact Price Before Seeing the Item?
We can provide an initial offer based on your item’s description and photos. Upon receipt, our experts inspect for authenticity, condition, and craftsmanship. If the item meets our expectations, we proceed with either payment or consignment marketing.
4. Is It Safe to Send Valuables by Mail?
Yes. We recommend sending items through the U.S. Postal Service using Registered Insured Mail, which is the industry standard. This service allows you to insure packages up to $25,000. For additional coverage, please inquire with us directly.
5. How Do I Send You My Valuables?
Request one of our EZ Ship boxes, and we’ll handle most of the preparation for you. Simply pack your item securely to avoid movement in transit. Ship via USPS with insurance. If using UPS, ensure full insurance coverage. We do not recommend FedEx, as they may not insure jewelry or watches.
6. Can I Visit Your Location in Person?
Absolutely. Our showroom is located at 9595 Harding Avenue, across from the Bal Harbour Shops, just 10 minutes north of Miami Beach. We’re open Monday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm. For high-value or multiple items, we recommend calling ahead to ensure a specialist is available.
7. Do You Accept Trades?
Yes, we often accept trades for watches and jewelry featured in our showroom. If you are interested in trading, please include the item you wish to acquire in your preliminary quote request.
8. When Do I Get Paid?
Outright Sales: Payment is issued by check or wire within 24–48 hours of completing the transaction. In-person sellers may opt for cash.
Consignment: Payment is issued 10 business days after the item sells to accommodate our return policy.
9. How Long Has Gray & Sons Jewelers Been in Business?
Founded in 1980, Gray & Sons Jewelers has over four decades of expertise in buying, selling, and consigning luxury watches and fine jewelry. Our team includes master watchmakers, gemologists, and experienced sales professionals.
10. Why Choose Gray & Sons Jewelers?
Unlike brokers or wholesalers who resell to retailers, we sell directly to the public—eliminating middlemen and allowing you to earn more. Our streamlined consignment program is fee-free, straightforward, and successful. Unlike auction houses, we don’t charge high commissions, and you always know your final payout before your item is marketed.
11. Should I Sell to a Local Jeweler?
We believe you get the best value by working with us. Local jewelers typically resell to dealers like Gray & Sons, which reduces your potential earnings. By working directly with us, you eliminate intermediaries and maximize your return.
12. How Long Does It Take for Consignment Items to Sell?
Most items sell within 8 to 10 weeks, depending on seasonality, pricing, item condition, and market demand.
13. What If My Consignment Item Doesn’t Sell?
If your item has not sold after 90 days, you may request its return or allow us to continue marketing it. If pricing is a concern, we may suggest a discount to encourage a faster sale.
14. Is My Consignment Item Insured and Secure?
Yes. All consigned items are kept in a secure vault and fully insured through Lloyd’s of London, up to a value of $3.5 million.
15. How Do I Know I’m Getting the Best Market Price?
We evaluate each item based on current market trends, demand, and condition. Our goal is to set competitive pricing while maintaining a fair profit margin. We encourage you to obtain other offers for comparison—specifically, cash offers—not general appraisals.
